Sun Zongwei is an important artist in the history of Chinese art in the 20th century. He once studied under Xu Beihong and also followed Zhang Daqian to the west to investigate the cave art in Dunhuang. Yesterday, Mondernity in Sun Zongwei's Practice of Painting opened at the Art Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, showing Sun Zongwei's art and life with 155 precious works (sets). It is also the first exhibition of the Art museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts after it reopened to the public.

The portraits, flowers and still life were created in the 1930s and 1940s revealing the artist's inner world. Sun Zongwei has been suffering from illness since 45 years old, and the exhibition ends with an uncompleted line drawing of lotus flower in traditional ink and brush style.

This year is the 110th anniversary of Sun Zongwei's birth. The Central Academy of Fine Arts has planned this exhibition, which has been included in the series of activities of "Hundreds Years of Glory - CAFA Master", aiming to enhance the understanding of the development of Chinese fine arts in the 20th century and further carry forward the excellent tradition created and formed by artistic ancestors.
