The Temple of Heaven was inscribed in the World Heritage List in 1998. Located at the southern end of Beijing, it was the place where the Ming and Qing emperors sacrificed to heaven and prayed for good harvests and fine rain. The Temple of Heaven enjoys a great reputation at home and abroad for its rigorous architectural layout, peculiar architectural structure and magnificent architectural decoration.
The Temple of Heaven, covering an area of 273 hectares, is divided into two altars: the inner altar is composed of two parts: the Circular Mound Altar and the Altar of Praying for grain, while the outer altar is a forested area, widely planted with trees, with more than 3,500 ancient pines and cypresses. The representative buildings of the Temple of Heaven include Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest, Circular Mound Alter, Imperial Vault of Heaven, Palace for Abstinence, Divine Music Administration and House for Raising Sacrificed Animals.
Taking the promotion of the cultural connotation of the Temple of Heaven as the starting point, Tiantan Park has launched a new cultural and creative space "Tiantan Shiguang", which was successfully selected as one of the "2022 Internet-popular Tourist Spots" in December 2022. It is another great place to explore Tiantan culture in addition to "Tiantan Fuyin" and "Tiantan Fuyan".
