On February 20, the National Museum of China completed the first phase of "An Exhibition of Food Culture in Ancient China" where Song Yuan Haisi Banquet showcases the unique food culture of the world maritime trade center in the Song and Yuan dynasties.
The Song and Yuan Dynasties were the peak of the development of China's maritime silk road and also the heyday of overseas traffic of Quanzhou Port in Fujian Province. The "Song Yuan Haisi Banquet", based on the book Shan Jia Qing Gong written by Lin Hong, a gourmet from Quanzhou, Fujian Province, in the Southern Song Dynasty, collected famous dishes of Fujian and integrated elements such as maritime silk road , trade and religion. It also combined dishes and banquets with vessels, scenes, music and poems of Song and Yuan Dynasties.
"Song Yuan Haisi Banquet" is a cultural theme banquet with both cultural heritage and characteristics of Fujian cuisine, and its historical and cultural value is self-evident. In July 2021, "Quanzhou: The World Maritime Trade Center of Song and Yuan Dynasties" was inscribed on the World Heritage List. There are 22 heritage sites in total, among which the three world heritage sites, the Wanshou Tower, Liusheng Tower and the Shihu Pier located in Shishi City of Quanzhou.
In order to activate the world heritage of maritime silk road and innovate the Min cuisine (Fujian cuisine) culture, the theme banquet was planned and launched through cultural empowerment. In June 2022, it was rated as a landmark banquet and selected into the "China Landmark Food List". Now, as a representative of excellent regional food culture, "Song Yuan Haisi Banquet" appeared in "An Exhibition of Food Culture in Ancient China".
