2023-02-20

The capital, Beijing, was the main position of the early spread of Marxism in China and one of the main breeding grounds of the Communist Party of China. It has rich revolutionary cultural relics and deep “red genes”. Let's walk into the old revolutionary sites and listen to the revolutionary stories.

Peking University Red House

The Red Building of Peking University is located at No. 29, Wusi Street, Dongcheng District, which was originally the location of the Peking University Department, the First Academy (liberal arts) and the library. It was built in 1916 and completed in 1918. The main body of the building is made of red brick masonry and a red tile roof, so it is called the Red Building of Peking University.

The Red House of Peking University is a modern building with a glorious revolutionary tradition and an important place for Li Dazhao, Chen Duxiu, Mao Zedong and others to carry out revolutionary activities. It was the climax of the New Culture Movement, an important source of the May Fourth Movement, the birthplace of the early Communist Party organization in Beijing, and played an important role in promoting the establishment of Communist Party organizations nationwide. In 1961, the Red House of Peking University was announced as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

The Red Building of Peking University has the "Great Cause, Revolutionary Prologue - Theme Exhibition of the Red Building of Peking University and the Early Revolutionary Activities of the Communist Party of China in Beijing", and has restored six old sites, including the library director's office where Li Dazhao worked. The exhibition displays 958 pictures (including texts, tables, and maps) and 1,357 cultural relics (including physical objects, documents, archives and other exhibits), vividly showing the glorious history of Beijing's revolutionary activities during the founding period of the Communist Party of China.

The former site of the Beijing Newspaper Building

The former site of the Beijing Newspaper Building is located at No. 30 and No. 32 of Weiran Hutong, Chunshu Street, Xicheng District, which was the former residence of Shao Pioping, a famous newspaperman in the Republic of China period and the founder of the famous progressive newspaper "Beijing Newspaper", and also the former office site of "Beijing Newspaper".

In the newspaper period, the first floor of the small building was a communication room and a business office responsible for newspaper sales and advertising, and the second floor was an editorial office and a manager's office, and two long black tables were placed in the editorial office for editors to work. In those years, after the newspaper was compiled, the sample was sent to the courtyard outside the window for typesetting, proofreading, and then printed at the self-set Zhaoming Printing Office. After the newspaper was published, the newspaper was delivered to the newspaper shop in Beiliuxiang where the newspaper was sold to vendors.

Today, visitors can learn about the development of the CPC's journalism in the museum, feel the momentous years of people with lofty ideals who spread advanced ideas a hundred years ago, and remember the revolutionary martyrs who heroically sacrificed their lives to spread Marxism and practiced the concept of "saving the country by spreading the news".
