From Feb 17 to 19, the new version of Tang Concubines from Shanghai Peking Opera Troupe will be staged at the Opera House of the National Center for the Performing Arts, led by famous Peking Opera masters Shi Yihong and Li Jun.
Based on Mei Lanfang's famous play Tales of Taizhen in the 1920s, Tang Concubines focuses on the love story between Li Longji, Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty, and Yang Yuhuan. Shi Yihong inherits the artistic style of Mei Lanfang and Mei Baojiu, and embodies the cultural essence of Chinese Peking Opera in keeping classic and making innovations.
