Sino-French University originated from the movement of work-study program in France in the early 20th century, which has played an important role in the history of modern Chinese education and in the history of Sino-French cultural exchanges. From its establishment in 1920 to its closure in 1950, Sino-French University insisted to carry out the policies for running the school proposed by its first principal, Cai Yuanpei. The university cultivated a number of students with patriotic feelings and progressive thoughts. Chen Yi, once engaged a work-study program in France, entered Sino-French University in 1923 and served as the Party branch secretary of the University from 1924 to 1925, which was his first position in Communist Party of China.
As a cultural relic protection unit in Beijing, the site of the early revolutionary activities of the Communist Party of China in Beijing, Beijing patriotic education base and the practice base of civilization in the new era , there are two special exhibitions in the auditorium and teaching building, themed "The Spread of Marxism in Early China" and "The Glorious Course of the Sinicization of Marxism". Having been integrated into the century-old buildings, the exhibitions display the spread and development of Marxism in China in a comprehensive and systematic way, making the important history embedded in the site of Sino-French University glow in the new era.
