Legend has it that in the early years there was a young girl of good appearance living in a village located at the foot of Jinshanling Great Wall, Hebei Province. Since her fair skin and rosy cheek, people called her Tao Chun girl ( Tao Chun means peach blossoms of spring).

In order to appreciate soldiers for their industrious work, Tao Chun girl climbed through mountains to deliver food and water to soldiers on a daily basis.
One day, there was no trace of Tao Chun girl even after the noon. Soldiers were worried that if she broke her legs or met fierce beasts on the way, so that they split up to search the girl. Unfortunately, when Tao Chun girl was found, she was already dead because falling from the cliff when carrying too much water.
In order to memorize the girl, soldiers buried her in a ditch at the west end of Jinshanling Great Wall and planted plenty of peach trees at the ditch where they named it as Tao Chun Ditch. After the construction of the Great Wall, they also named a watchtower built at Tao Chun Ditch as Tao Chun Watchtower as well as an important pass as Tao Chun Pass.
