On that day, the customs of welcoming the God of Wealth and sending off the God of Poverty will be hold. It was said to be the birthday of the God of Wealth when Chinese people prepare a feast to celebrate for the god. In the early morning, they will also blast firecrackers to welcome the God of Wealth.

From the 1st day till the 4th day of lunar Jan., trash of each household must not be taken out and should be collected. On the 5th day, people take out all trash, a traditional custom called Song Qiong, which means sending off the God of Poverty.

Apart from these, there are other customs including forbidding cooking with raw rice, forbidding female to do needlework and forbidding breaking up things.
