To better preserve the staple food, Chinese people prepare wheaten food for the Spring Festival on that day which will be eaten from the first day of the first lunar month till the fifth day when people think staple food cannot be made according to folk belief. People will steam Mantou, smashed beanbuns and Huajuan and then decorate them with red dots on the top. 

Apart from these, people will also paste New Year pictures, Spring Festival couplets and paper-cuts for window decoration. The origin of Spring Festival couplets come from Taofu, peach wood charms that are pasted on the houses to get rid of the evilness. Since the invention of printing and paper making, people paste the Chinese character Fu for the bless of good fortune in the future.
