Online Exhibition | NCPA New Year’s Exhibition of Engraved and Woodcut Prints

2023-01-16

As early as the Han Dynasty, folk Chinese New Year paintings were produced by means of woodblock prints to decorate the environment during the Spring Festival, to ward off bad luck and to inspire hope. Today, the development of printmaking has become increasingly diverse and the themes expressed in New Year paintings have become more colourful, and the twelve Chinese zodiac signs, as cultural resources with a unique Chinese spirit and wisdom, have become important themes used by contemporary printmakers. The Rabbit, as a symbol of good fortune, wisdom and prudence, is even more popular this year.

On the occasion of the New Year, the NCPA, in collaboration with the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), is pleased to announce the launch of the exhibition "NCPA New Year Small Printmaking Exhibition". The exhibition presents over 150 prints of different types of prints, including letterpress, intaglio, lithography, funnel, digital and other forms of expression, as well as a special display of printmaking techniques in the exhibition venue, to show the audience the charm of different types of prints in a more comprehensive way.

With just one ticket to the National Theatre, you can step into the space on the ground floor of the concert hall and enjoy the Year of the Rabbit prints and the Chinese New Year atmosphere!
