Baihua Mountain

Address: The intersection of Mentougou District and Fangshan District in Beijing

The main scenic areas of Baihua Mountain consist of Main Peak, Meadow, Wanghailou, and so on. At an altitude of 1991 meters, the main peak of Baihua Mountain features surrounding mountains, odd peaks, gurgling streams, and foggy clouds. 

Known as the "Natural Zoological and Botanical Garden of North China", the mountain boasts a total of 1292 species of higher plants, accounting for 61.8% of Beijing's plants in total, including 10 plants that are under special national protection, such as Baihua Mountain Grape (the only state-level key protection plant in Beijing), Phellodendron amurense, wild soybean, and so on. 

Baihua Mountain is also home to 271 species of terrestrial vertebrates, among which 45 are under special national protection, such as the brown moorhen, black stork, golden eagle which is a state-level protection animal, and so on. In the height of summer, towering trees with lush leaves grow into deep roots and, and hundreds of flowers bloom together, like golden lotus flowers, azaleas, and camellia. Therefore, it becomes an extraordinary place for those looking for relief from the heat and those who want to climb mountains to keep fit.

Longqing Gorge Fengguan Island

Address: North of Gucheng Village, Jiuxian Town, Yanqing District, Beijing

Longqing Gorge is located in the northwest of Gucheng Village, Yanqing District. Known as "Gucheng Jiuqu" in ancient times, the scenic area integrates a charming southern landscape and a majestic northern landscape with winding gorges and long green rivers. Fengguan Island is a landmark in the 14-li (about 4.3 miles) waterway of Longqing Gorge. Like towering and winding peaks, the island is backed by mountains and surrounded by waters on three sides. In the form of a peninsula, it seems to drift with waves in water, looking like a floating down hat with the shape of a phoenix coronet from the overall view. So, it is called Fengguan Island.

The water around Fengguan Island is about 50 meters wide and 35 meters deep. Mountains on the island feature ancient carbonate rocks exposed on the surface with dense joints and faults, and a dramatic karst landscape. The mountains are colorful screens and the water is a jade mirror. In the evening, rowing a light boat around the island is just like traveling in a wonderland.

Nanshiyang Canyon Forest Park

Address: 200m west of Matao Village, Yanchi Town, Mentougou District, Beijing

Nanshiyang Canyon Forest Park is located on the bank of the Yongding River and at the foot of the Great Wall. Situated in West Hills of Taihang Mountains, the park’s main peak is 1580 meters above the sea level, and the total length of the canyon is more than 20 kilometers. Canyon, peaks, and cliffs constitute its unique landscape that is majestic, odd, risky, and secluded, making it an extraordinary tourist destination integrating sightseeing, photography, scientific collection, and mountain hiking. 

The scenic areas consist of “One Canyon and Nine Valleys”, “Eighteen Bends”, and “Seventy-two Joints”. Along the natural winding road, visitors can enjoy more than twenty magnificent scenes, such as Fanchen Valley, Qixia Valley, Xiaoyao Valley, and so on. You can see white clouds rise from the distant mountains and sway into the clear sky. You can stroll through the Tianhua Tower and pick up flowers on garden paths. On a clear night, when you stop at peaks and look up at the stars, you can't help but reflect on the immensity of cosmos. The park is fully equipped with a service area, a reception area, a resort area, and a relaxation area, which can meet the different needs of visitors.

Shuanglong Gorge

Address: South of Huo Village, Zhaitang Town, Mentougou District, Beijing

Shuanglong Gorge is located 2.5 kilometers south of Huo Village, Zhaitang Town, Mentougou District, and 78 kilometers away from downtown Beijing. In spring, thousands of acres of apricot blossoms bloom here, and the fragrance fills the air. The sides of the mountains are green, and the stream is babbling. What an enjoyment it must be to hike here along mountain streams and adventure in dense forests. In summer, mountain flowers blossom everywhere, miles of streams flow cheerfully, and waterfalls cascade down freely. There are thousands of acres of red apricots and thousands of acres of forests, green mountains, and valleys, and majestic peaks and mountains, so it is also known as "XiaoJiuzhai". In autumn, the air is refreshing; red leaves cover whole mountains; streams flow quietly; and thousands of acres of trees thrive. In winter, there are wonders of freezing waterfalls and rare scenes of miles of glaciers in North China, allowing you to experience a dream tour like in a crystal palace.

Another unique feature of the Shuanglong Gorge is the forest train. When you get on a train, it is just like you reach “Jiapigou” in The Taking of Tiger Mountain, which is an unforgettable experience that you cannot gain in other scenic spots!

Yanqi Island

Address: No. 3 Yanshui Road, Huaibei Town, Huairou District, Beijing

Yanqi Island is located at the foot of Yanshan Mountain in the north of Huairou District, with a total area of 65 hectares and a total construction area of 180,000 square meters. The scenic area mainly consists of Beijing Yanqi Lake International Conference Center, Yanqi Hotel, Yanqi Tower, and 12 state-guest villas. The terrain of Yanqi Island is high in the northwest and low in the southeast, and the overall layout adopts the concept of the central axis of the royal garden. The 12 villas especially embody this design philosophy. Their construction integrates the core concept of “harmony in diversity” and water platforms in Chinese-style water-friendly architecture in south China, water courtyard space in traditional pile-dwelling in southwestern China, and so on. Therefore, specific characteristics and styles of different architectures are displayed in the villas.

Yeyahu National Wetland Park

Address: West of Liuhaoying Village, Kangzhuang Town, Yanqing District, Beijing

Located in the northwest of Yanqing District, at the foot of the Badaling Great Wall, a world cultural heritage, Yeyahu National Wetland Park is a national 4A scenic spot, a national wetland park, and a national nature reserve. After more than 50 years of development, the wetland ecosystem with large numbers of animals and plants, high biodiversity, and stability has been formed, which has become one of the important bird habitats in Beijing and even North China.

The reserve's total area is 6,873 hectares, of which 3,939 are wetlands, making it the only wetland bird nature reserve in Beijing. According to the official statistics, the total number of bird species in the park has reached 390, including 22 species under first-class protection in China and 73 species under second-class protection. There are 420 species of higher plants, 40 species of fish, 5 species of amphibians, 10 species of mammals, 182 species of insects, and so on. Therefore, it has become an important bird habitat in North China, and it is also a necessary stop in the migration route of birds from East Asia to Australia.

Yeyahu National Wetland Park is the kidney of the Earth, a paradise for birds and insects, and a home for harmonious coexistence between human and nature.
