On the evening of December 31, 2022, 2023 Beijing New Tear Countdown Celebration that was sponsored by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism was held at Shougang Park. The event, with “Shoulder our Mission, Strive for a Blueprint” as the theme, was based on Shougang Park to form a multi-spot linkage and preformed a panoramic and immersive light and shadow show of industrial sites. The event showcased the charm of Beijing as a traditional and fashionable city as well as the vitality of urban renewal and high-quality development in the new era, and conveyed people's aspiration for a better life, expressing the capital's confidence to strive for the next 100-year goal.

The event, in terms of spatial layout and visual presentation, achieved a new breakthrough. For the first time, a spatial breakthrough from one point to multiple points was achieved, with the High Line Park as the main line, creating a 3km-long light and shadow corridor, with the iconic industrial sites of One Blast Furnace and Three Blast Furnaces as the light and shadow showground, and three giant drying water towers as the light and shadow canvas, with park-wide linkage and light and shadow interaction to create a large industrial site panoramic and immersive light and shadow show.

In terms of visual presentation, the 3D Mapping digital technology was used for the first time on a giant industrial heritage building with a total area of 3,000 square metres to stage a spectacular visual feast with a highly realistic and three-dimensional sense of three-dimensional light and shadow scenes, achieving a perfect fusion of architecture and culture, technology and art, renewing the innovative vitality of industrial heritage sites and Olympic legacy, and highlighting the vigorous energy of the thousand-year old capital leading the future.

Since 2011, the Beijing New Year Countdown has been successfully held in the Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Badaling Great Wall, Olympic Park (two sessions), Forbidden City, Olympic Forest Park (two sessions), Yongding Gate and Shougang Park (two sessions), becoming one of the important elements of the New Year's activities in all time zones around the world, and also a city cultural tourism card issued by Beijing to the world. In the new year 2023, Beijing will continue to strive for a new journey and write a new chapter with its charming city culture, broad and tolerant mind, and ever-changing development of the times.
