2022-12-12

Lvdagun, also called Glutinous Rice Rolls stuffed with Red Bean Paste, is a traditional snack in Beijing. Main ingredients of Lvdagun include millet flour, soybean meal, red bean paste, brown sugar and white sugar. To guarantee the softness and delicate taste, millet flour needs to be steamed, wrapped in red bean paste or red sugar and rolled into the shape of noodles. Finally, the steamed yellow rice noodles are covered with soybean meal and white sugar. The characteristics of Lvdagun are sweet, sweet, sticky, and rich in the flavor of soy flour.

How did Lvdagun get its name? Lvdagun is in fact an image metaphor in Chinese. After Lvdagun is made, it will be rolled in the soybean meal like a donkey which is rolling in the dust, hence the name. According to an ancient essay, the name Lvdagun has been settled in the Qing Dynasty.

Now, few young people learn about the origin of Lvdagun and its name. Lvdagun used to be made of millet flour but now its material is mostly glutinous rice flour. Regardless of its raw materials, Lvdagun has always been a classic and popular folk snack in Beijing.
