A Look Back and A Look Ahead opens at Purple Bamboo Park. The exhibition integrates the traditional Chinese culture with the connotation of contemporary life and children’s emotions, and focuses on the excellent original paintings in the Jiushenlu Picture Book Gallery, where ancient Chinese illustrations and fashionable ancient charm coexist.
The illustrations presented in this exhibition can be divided into ancient and modern parts. Ancient illustration works are especially worth seeing. More than 350 fine pictures and texts, including the Diamond Sutra of the Tang Dynasty, the official revision pharmacopoeia of the Ming Dynasty, and multiple versions of large-scale painting manuals of the Qing Dynasty, were displayed to show the root of Chinese illustration art to the world. This batch of precious ancient Chinese illustrations will be intensively presented in this exhibition as well.
Modern illustration exhibits are mainly selected from the works of Jiushenlu Picture Book Gallery, an original picture book brand under the China Children’s Press and Publication Bureau. As fro creation, the Jushenlu Picture Book Gallery draws heavily on the elements of ancient Chinese illustration art, as well as world-class intangible cultural heritage elements such as paper-cut, seal cutting, and shadow play, thus to lead children to contact and understand the essence of Chinese culture and art. Precious ancient illustration works and exquisite contemporary excellent original Chinese picture book illustration complement each other at the exhibition site, leading the audience to trace back to the past and the present, and understand the long history of the development of Chinese illustration art.
