Minor Snow is the 20th solar term of the year. Snow represents cold weather. The solar term reflects the phenomenon of active cold waves and increasing precipitation, rather than the small amount of snow that falls during this solar term.
There are also some customs in the solar terms.
Make preserved pork
In traditional folk custom, people often marinates meat in the winter and stores it. The temperature drops sharply after the Minor Snow. The weather has become dry, making it a good time to process cured meat. After the Minor Snow, some farmers begin to make sausage and cured meat, storing excess meat in traditional ways, and enjoying the food during the Spring Festival.
Eat glutinous rice cake
In some parts of the Southern China , there is also a custom of eating glutinous rice cake.Glutinous rice cake, made from glutinous rice steamed and pounded, is a popular dish in some parts of southern China. In ancient times, glutinous rice cake is a traditional festival, which was first used by farmers to sacrifice the cow god.
Dry fish
Fishermen on the coast of central and southern Taiwan start drying fish and storing dry food during the Minor Snow. Schools of mullet arrive in the Taiwan Strait around the time of the solar term. In addition, there are sailfish, sandfish and so on.
Have pork soup
In the Minor Snow, the Tujia people begin the annual t pig killing to celebrate the New Year, adding a warm atmosphere to the cold winter.Having pao soup is the custom of Tujia people. In the folk custom activity,the delicacy made of fine fresh pork is called “Pork Soup”.
