Recently, the drama “Peking 1948”, a key play of Baoguo Temple, produced by Beijing Performing & Arts Group and staged by Beijing Children Art Theatre, was officially set up. This is an immersive performance tailored for Baoguo Temple, a millennium ancient temple, with affections to family and mother land as the background, which integrates the new Beijing flavor, the style of the Republic of China and the sense of the times.

In late autumn of 1948, Beiping City experienced the last darkness before dawn. A national treasure-class cultural relic is mysteriously missing, and various people are entangled in this issue - Kuomintang generals responsible for escorting the national treasure, high-ranking politicians who investigate underground parties, a female journalist who wants to join the Communist Party, underground parties who are lurking in Peiping, the female secret agent who is eager for love... They are led by mysterious forces behind the scenes to fight and make choices in the darkness of this ancient city. Based on the real defense battle of the national treasure that took place on the eve of the liberation of Peiping in 1948, the play uses mobile performance to form a compact and rich story series, which brings the audience a new experience of watching performances with the atmosphere of old Beijing under the contemporary space of ancient buildings.

In the early stage of the production of “Peking 1948”, the main creators went to the Baoguo Temple for many times to, read a large number of historical documents, and discussed the space utilization of Baoguo Temple for many times with the support of the Publicity Department of the Xicheng District Party Committee. Finally, it was determined that the performance of the new space of performing arts should be integrated with the current popular elements to create a unique historical and cultural style.

The main creators made full use of the three halls of Baoguo Temple to form a performance space, infusing the immersive experience loved by young people into the real historical story plot, forming a holistic atmosphere with Baoguo Temple as the field. Therefore, the audience can walk around the Baoguo Temple with stories and actors, and feel the unique charm of the integration of historical precipitation and innovative performance.

The play will officially be staged in Baoguo Temple in late December.
