This play is based on the story of the states of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty. King Ping of Chu angrily killed Wu She's family. Wu'son, Wu Yuan, escaped from Fancheng and went to Shaoguan. Before the pass, soldiers wanted to arrest him according to painting so he could't pass and only to hid in Dong Gaogong's home for seven days. He was so worried that his hair and beard were white. Dong Gao Gong and his friend Huangfu Na gave advice to help him escape Shaoguan.

Wu Yuan escaped from Zhaoguan but blocked the river. Fortunately, a fisherman helped him to cross the river. Wu Zixu gave him the sword, and told the fisherman not to say the thing out. The fisherman cast the river to prove he can do it. After crossing the river, he was hungry and starved for food, begging for food from silk washing woman. He also asked the women not to divulge, and the women also cast the river. Wu fled to the State of Wu and become sworn brother with Zhuan Zhu.

Ji Guang heard that Wu Yuan were brave and resourceful. When they met, Ji accepted Wu as retainer. Wu Yuan recommended Zhuan Zhu to Ji Guang. Ji Guang was supposed to succeed the throne, but Ji Liao relied on power and made himself king. In order to restore the throne, Ji Guang invited Ji Liao, the king of Wu, to dinner.

Zhuan Zhu disguised himself as a cook who put a sword inside a fish, and then he offered the fish to stab Ji Guang to death.
