Shi Pingmei is one of the key creative plays of Jingju Theater Company of Beijing in 2022, and also an important project of the Publicity Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee. 

Under the background of the new cultural movement, a group of young people represented by Shi Pingmei and Gao Junyu were brave enough to sacrifice themselves for the pursuit of lofty revolutionary ideals and pure love even in the face of imperialist aggression, and the oppression of feudal ethics and warlord rule. At the same time, it also shows the new young people's thinking and criticism of the society and their firm pursuit of the ideal society in the tide of the May Fourth movement.

Shi Pingmei is a representative work showing the innovative development of the Cheng School of Peking Opera in the new era. Shi Pingmei, the talented woman, has legendary life and delicate feelings. Her characters, including ideals, views on fame and love, fit well with the female image of suffering but with tough and pure goodness that Cheng School art is good at depicting. The plaintive lyrics are more touching.
