synopsis

In the Song Dynasty, Zhang Shihua, a scholar of Mengjin in Henan Province, early died of illness, leaving behind his wife Kang and two sons Zhang Xuan and Zhang Yi. Zhang Xuan has been to the capital for an examination without any news for several years. Zhang Yi went to Mengjin River every day to fish to support his mother. One day he fished a golden turtle. He also learned that his brother had been appointed as the county magistrate of Xiangfu, so he backed home and told his mother this news. Kang asked Zhang Yi to Xiangfu County to look for his brother and sister-in-law. Zhang Xuan's wife, Wang, was a wicked woman who plotted steal the golden turtle so she killed Zhang Yi. Kang waited her son return, but there was no news, so she went to Xiangfu County personally. When she learned that Zhang Yi had died, she cried bitterly. Then she went to Bao Zheng to redress grievances, finally vindicated.
