Pure Land of Buddha, the Hongluo Temple

2022-11-01

In autumn, Hongluo Temple becomes a colorful world with the bright yellow ginkgo leaves. Let's enjoy the scenery at Hongluo Temple this autumn! Look at the mountains, the river, and the red leaves, relax youself and enjoy the joy.

Hongluo Temple was built in the fourth year of the Xiankang period in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (338), with a long history of more than 1600 years. It's a national AAAA tourist attraction now. The profound historical culture, the fantastic geographical environment and climatic conditions have made Hongluo Temple a perfect and extraordinary "Pure Land of Buddha".

Hongluo Temple is not only a large-scale temple that can accept monks from all over the world, but also the birthplace of Buddhism in the north of China, and has enjoyed a very high status in the Buddhist community for more than a thousand years. The last two generations of the Pure Land Sect of Buddhism were related to this temple. There is a saying that "There is Putuo Temple in the south and Hongluo Temple in the north".

To the north of the temple is the majestic Hongluo Mountain, and to the south is the beautiful Hongluo Lake. Sky-high ancient trees are around the temple, making it a geomantic omen precious place.

The "Three Great Views of Hongluo Temple" - the royal bamboo forest, monoecious ginkgo tree, and wisteria twining around the pine trees, dot the ancient temple. The millions of rods of emerald bamboo and thousands of acres of ancient pine forest embrace the entire temple, forming a beautiful painting. The spirit of the mountains and rivers has created a Buddhist garden landscape.

With a total area of 8 square kilometers, Hongluo Temple Scenic Area has formed a tourism pattern of three "cultural areas" and two "scenic areas", with the sightseeing characteristics of "seeing flowers in spring, avoiding summer heat in summer, watching leaves in autumn and appreciating three durable plants of winter -- pine, bamboo and plum blossom in winter".

Enjoy the red leaves at the Hongluo Temple

In the late autumn, more than 600 hectares of red and colored leaves change colors, just like burning coals. As you walk along the forest path, all the mountains turn red from a distance, and up close each tree is a separate autumn scene that you cannot take your eyes off.

Every year mid to late October is the best time to see the monoecious ginkgo tree in the ancient temple. The thousand-year-old trees, the black tiles and the red walls of the ancient temple reflect each other.

The autumn scenery of the ancient temple is not only in the deep mountains but also in every corner of the temple. The story of autumn is written in the ancient temple waiting for you to see.
