The play is a painstaking work as well as a classic of the clan of Cheng created by Mr. Cheng Yanqiu.

The play told the story of Xue Xiangling, a wealthy girl who was doted on by her mother since childhood and married with a dowry bag full of exotic treasures. On her way, she took shelter from the rain at the Spring and Autumn Pavilion. When she met a poor girl, Zhao Shouzhen, who was also getting married that day, she generously gave her pouch to Zhao.

Six years later, Xiangling was separated from her family by a flood and had no choice but to work as a servant in the Lu residence. One day, while playing in the garden with her young master, she happened to see Unicorn Trapping Purse on Lu's ancestral temple and found out what had happened after talking to Zhao.

With Zhao's help, Xiangling was reunited with his family. Zhao and Xue became sisters with different surnames. The work is a contrast to the harshness of the world, depicting the beautiful sentiments and moral values of pitying the poor and returning the favour.
