The play was premiered in 1931 by Cheng Yanqiu in Beijing.

This play tells the story that in the late Han Dynasty, Gongsun Zan and Liu Yu fought for power and were at war for many years. Wang Hui was forcibly conscripted into the army and left his wife Zhang right after three days of their marriage, and she had not heard from him for over one year. Zhang, missed her husband desperately, dreamed that he returned to her, but the war continued and soldiers died. When she awoke from her dream, she realized it was just a dream.
