This play, originating from The Original Periods of Xiangyu, Records of the Historian, premiered in 1922 by Yang Xiaolou and Mei Lanfang in Beijing.

The play tells the story of Liu Bang, who had appointed Han Xin as his commander in the late Qin Dynasty. Han Xin sent his strategist, Li Zuoche, to fraudulently surrender to Xiang Yu and coaxed him into a serious siege. Yu Ji, Xiang Yu's wife, received secret information from her brother Yu Ziqi and tried her best to stop Xiang Yu. Xiang Yu, however, stubbornly refused to listen to her advice and was lured to the Jiuli Mountain. Under siege, Xiang was trapped in Gaixia. Albeit Yu Ji persuaded Xiang Yu, Xiang was still unhappy on the banquet. Seeing the failure was obvious, Yu Ji killed herself in front of Xiang Yu, leaving Xiang Yu with no hope. In great sadness, Xiang Yu sallyed desperately.
