Learning Chinese | Frost's Descent (霜降)

2022-10-23

Frost's Descent is the 18th traditional Chinese solar terms. It's the last solar term of autumn, which is the transition from autumn to winter. Frost's Descent is characterized by cold morning and evening, and hot noon. After frost's descent, the plants gradually lose their vitality and the earth is desolation.

Frost's Descent is the season when autumn crops are finally harvested. The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and areas south of it are in the golden season for winter wheat planting. Late rice should be harvested as soon as it matures to prevent finch damage and seed loss.
