Focusing on the theme of Beijing Central Axis, the content of the exhibition is carefully selected from various books, showing the historical and cultural connotations of Beijing Central Axis and landmarks in an all-round way. It also shows the cultural charm of the capital city. Interesting or informative content was excavated from books, and cartoonists are invited to draw special cartoons based on the content of the stories. All these efforts make the exhibition more distinctive. By scanning the QR code on the exhibition board, visitors can listen to the audio guide on WeChat, which is convenient for young and visually impaired visitors to understand the history of Beijing Central Axis.
The exhibition is divided into two parts: the history of Beijing Central Axis and the history of its landmarks. Among them are some of the lesser-known highlights. For example, Cao Cao, a famous historical figure, is called the founder of the Central Axis of the capital city because of his contributions to the construction of Ye City. The Wanning Bridge at Di'anmen is introduced. In the Yuan Dynasty, there was an elephant house beside the bridge. At that time, elephants from Southeast Asian countries served as the emperor's guard of honor and carriage. There is also the Bell and Drum Tower, the liveliest commercial area in Beijing during the Yuan and Ming dynasties. The traffic here is convenient as the terminal of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal was built in Jishuitan. In addition, the central axis was extended to the north twice for the 1990 Asian Games and the 2008 Olympic Games. At the northern end of the extension line of the central axis, Yangshan mountain was built with the traditional Chinese method in the Olympic Forest Park. After that, the central axis of Beijing city expanded from 7.8 kilometers to 25 kilometers, and Yongdingmen and Yangshan became the two endpoints of the new central axis.
