Beijing Winter Olympic Park is lit up! Great pictures, a must for night running

2022-08-18

These days, if you visit the Beijing Winter Olympic Park in the evening, you will be surprised to see the whole park lit up. Whether it's the dynamic light strip on the night running route, the lighted waterfall at the base camp, or the landscape wall at the entrance of Ma Yu, they all inject fashion and vitality into the park and create a safe and bright environment for the public to visit at night.

The Beijing Winter Olympic Park is a valuable legacy of the Winter Olympics, linking the Shougang Park and several parks in the western part of Beijing, forming a perfect combination of nature and the steel city. But the left bank of the Yongding River was dark before the renovation, making it unsafe to travel at night. For this reason, Shijingshan District took the opportunity of the Winter Olympics to carry out an overall lighting design for the left bank of the Yongding River, making the Winter Olympics Park a waterfront landscape park that the public can visit at night.

Ma Hui, the relevant person in charge of the Shijingshan District Management Committee, introduced that the Winter Olympic Park night lighting construction is based on ecology, with reasonable planning of the brightness along the Yongding River, natural ecological low brightness, functional lighting as the main. The park lighting with a 10-kilometer-long night running route to link up the various thematic scenes, and the entire night running track are equipped with dynamic lighting so that people in fitness run as if shuttling between light and shadow.

At the running base camp, the light strips on the ground gradually increase, forming a beautiful curve like a fast-flowing ice track. A 20-meter long and 3-meter high LED outdoor screen has been installed in the camp, which in normal mode can present images of waterfalls falling and butterflies flying and flowers dancing. Infrared body-sensing and sound equipment have also been installed inside, which can quickly capture human movement patterns and form an interactive effect of light following human movement.

The camp is also lit with a light blue light under the viaduct of the Beijing-Shijingshan high-speed railway line, and the façade can show snowflakes and white doves.

The "Winter Olympic Ring" connecting Shougang Park and the Winter Olympic Park is the visual core of the park's night scenery. The red railing lights follow the linear rotation of the carrier and the façade presents a silhouette pattern, highlighting the structural beauty of the steel frame. The high line park auxiliary bridge is lit with a simple and strong sense of order, using light to guide people through the park and into Shougang Park.

In addition, the park's Ma Yu entrance, the Bridge Park, the landscape show platform, the ice forest, and many other attractions have also been carefully designed for lighting: the entrance to Ma Yu has created a landscape modeling wall, so people can follow the lights into the park. The Bridge Park is popular at night, and the space under the bridge uses lighting to form a visual guide, projecting water wave patterns on the ground, such as the river rippling and sparkling. The node of the landscape show platform uses micro-colored light. The show platform node uses micro-colored light to illuminate the show platform railings, and people can enjoy the glittering insect fires along the Yongding River under the lights. The ice and snow forest node creates a white light cold cave, and the interior is also designed with curved LED screens.

Ma Hui introduced that the night lighting of Beijing Winter Olympic Park spreads the ice and snow culture, serves the life of the public and implements the design concept of green environmental protection and inheriting nature. The park's night lighting activates public space vitality and will play an active role in the future for urban micro-renewal, enhancing the night economy and helping to revive industrial sites.
