In summer, the suburbs of Beijing are the best destinations to escape the summer heat. We recommend a leisurely two-day trip to Miyun, where you can not only visit the "Jiangnan Water Town", but also climb the Great Wall at night.
Day1 Gubei Water Town
Backed by the Simatai Great Wall, Gubei Water Town is located in the Yuanyang Lake Reservoir, with the Tang River system running through it.
The ancient town has a feeling of Jiangnan water town. The old houses with green bricks and gray tiles are lined up in a row, and the winding stone streets are full of ancient charm.
During the daytime, visitors can enjoy visiting the Yongshun Dyeing Workshop, Simagang Brewery, Zhenyuan Armed Escort, Dragon and Phoenix Pond and other attractions. At night, the combination of technology and classical drones and the Great Wall musical water dance show are must-see.
Simatai Great Wall
The Simatai Great Wall is the only ancient architectural site in China that has been preserved in its original form during the Ming Dynasty and has been designated by UNESCO as the "Original Great Wall". In 2012, the Simatai Great Wall was named by The Times as one of the top 25 sights in the world not to be missed.
During the daytime, the scenery of Simatai Great Wall is superb, as you can see the wall winding along with the knife-like ridges. In the wide places, horses can walk. In the narrow places, only one person can pass. There are 35 enemy towers of different sizes and shapes. They are erected on various high points according to the local conditions, and stand out firmly.
You can also climb the Simatai Great Wall at night. The road is flanked by orange and yellow light strips that resemble wandering dragons. When you look down at Gubei Water Town from the Great Wall, the lights are brilliant.
Gourmet
There are many restaurants in the ancient town, so don't miss them if you like delicious food. Qiaotou cake, Gubei baked pear, and roast pork restaurant are worth tasting. Shredded turnip cake is especially recommended, as it is rarely available in the north.

It is very comfortable to sleep at the foot of the Great Wall at night! Each hotel has its own characteristics, such as the Dock Inn, Pear Garden Inn, Wolongpu Inn, Yang's Inn, and Escort Inn. The inn may not appear great from the outside, but there is something special when you go inside. The landlords of some inns are authentic Jiangnan people, so you can have authentic Hangzhou cuisine here!

Day2 Ancient Imperial Road Scenic Area
The Ancient Imperial Road Scenic Area is not far from Gubei Water Town and has more than 30 scenic spots of various sizes, including folklore exhibition rooms. There are the Ming Great Wall and the oldest Great Wall of the Northern Qi Dynasty in Beijing, the Ancient Imperial Road built in 1860, the Yang Lingong Temple built in 1025, the Three-Eyed Well, and the glazed screen wall full of magical legends.
