Exhibition | Encounter Mesopotamia: An Exhibition of Antiquities from Ancient Syria

2022-07-06

The exhibition is now being held at the third exhibition hall of the National Museum of Classic Books. 196 relics contributed from nine museums, spanning more than 500,000 years of time, tell a coherent story about Syria's Stone age and Bronze age to the Islamic ages.

The exhibition is divided into five units: “Dawn”, “Revolution”, “Conquest”, “Integration” and “Dialogue”. Stretching across Syria’s Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, as well as the Greek, Roman, and Islamic Ages, it paints a half-million-year cultural landscape and a magnificent historical picture.

The exhibition brings together exquisite cultural relics from nine Syrian museums, which includes the National Museum of Damascus and the Aleppo Museum, and three domestic museums. Statues of worshippers from Syria, Assyrian murals, lapis lazuli necklaces, as well as the rubbings of the Tang Dynasty Christianity Stele from the Xian Beilin Museum, the carved stone steles from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum, and the replica version of the Syriac Bible from the Dunhuang Academy are all incorporated in this exhibition, which will give the audience an extravaganza of ancient civilizations in West Asia.
