Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall - Fortress Scenery with Jiangnan Style

2022-05-30

The Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall was built under the reign of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty, over 600 years ago. It owes its name to the sea of yellow wildflowers that drown the village in the mid-summer. Located in Xishuiyu, JiuDuhe County, Huairou District, 65 kilometers from urban Beijing, the scenic spot is famous for its fusion of mountains, lakes, and the ancient Great Wall.

The three wonderful views there are rather intriguing and breathtaking, and enjoy a reputation of “Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall---Fortress Scenery with Jiangnan Style”. The first view is the Great Wall built during the reign of Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty meandering along the mountain ridge.

Lying around the Haoming lakeside, its scene is spectacular. The second view is the Haoming Lake that naturally divides the Great wall into several sections, forming a peculiar landscape of water submerging the ancient wall. The third view is the chestnut garden passed down from the Ming dynasty. Ancient chestnuts with twisted roots and gnarled branches have different shapes. Such a large area of deep roots and a lush canopy is indeed beyond praise.

Since the Yuan Dynasty, the area has already become a village busy with traffic. After Emperor Yongle of the Ming Dynasty moved its capital to Beijing, he built a mausoleum at Tianshou Mountain in Changping District, south of Huanghua village. Therefore, Huanghuacheng Great Wall is not only built to defend the Northern frontier of Beijing city but also a wall to protect the mausoleum which is the resting place of 13 emperors in the Ming Dynasty.

The Great Wall Under Water is the first wonderful view of the resort. Its formation owes to a reservoir built in that area. When the water level rose, some low-lying sections of the Great Wall went underwater, forming a scene of water submerging the ancient wall.

The winding city wall has been standing there for more than six hundred years since the Ming Dynasty. The Haoming Lake below the wall, whose water runs inexhaustibly all year round, reflects the magnificent mountains. The river source originates from Yanqing District where several streams converge together and then enter the district of Huairou to Huanghua village.

Mountains and rivers surround an acre of farmland; green hills and limpid rivers attach to each other. Here, you can enjoy the beauty of lakes and hills, and also appreciate the grandeur of the Great Wall surrounded by trees and flowers, making you rather relaxed to temporarily get away from the hustle and bustle of modern cities and return to nature.
