Spots inside Badachu Park - Baozhu Cave

2022-05-20

Located at the top of Pingpo Mountain, Baozhu Cave was founded in 1780, the 46th year of the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. In front of the temple, there is a wooden pagoda with a plaque engraved with "Solid Forest" and "Joyful Place", which were written by the Emperor Qianlong himself. After passing the pagoda, there is a natural boulder by the roadside, on which the poem "Poetry of the Baozhu Cave" can be seen in running script, and there is an imperial seal of Qianlong engraved at the end. The two-story hall is built near the cliff of Baozhu Cave. Among them, "Overlook Pavilion", Guanyin Hall, together with the supporting rooms on the left and right form the first floor courtyard. There is a stone cave with a width of about four meters behind Guanyin Hall. The stones inside the cave are like precious pearls, which are black and white. So the cave is named as "Treasure Pearl". It is said that during the Kangxi period, there was a Zen master, Hai Xiu, who practiced here and was summoned by the emperor many times. It is believed that he was able to chant scriptures to drive away ghosts, so he was also named "Ghost King Bodhisattva". Originally, there was a gold statue of him in the cave, but it was destroyed earlier and now it is a Chinese white jade statue. On the top of the cave is the Hall of Amitabha Buddha. It is an excellent place to view the beautiful scenery of the capital and watch the sunrise, so it enjoys the reputation of "Little Mount Tai in the west of Beijing".
