Sanlian Taofen Bookstore (Art Museum Store)

If you are a lover of literature, history, and philosophy, Sanlian Taofen Bookstore is undoubtedly your best choice.

The bookstore has three floors, and both the store space arrangement and the book coverage are among the best. Walking into the bookstore, you can see many book lovers, sitting or standing, quietly immersed in the world of books.

The front row on the first floor is new books and best-selling recommendations, followed by popular books and magazines, as well as children's books.

On the second floor is Sanlian's own publishing of various books and art books; there is also an open space, reserved for activities: almost every weekend, there are new book authors, and cultural celebrities giving a speech. I happened to encounter a free talk for the new book of Sanlian "The Great Civilization Scene". When the activity has not yet begun, the surrounding area was already full of people.

The basement floor is definitely the “military center” of Sanlian Bookstore, which brings together all kinds of literature, history and philosophy books, ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign, with a wide variety, and can definitely be called the best among bookstores. If you are a lover of literature and history, do not miss here.

There is a small seating area on the basement floor, where you can sit down and rest when you are tired of reading a book. However, the most humane thing about Sanlian is that it provides many small cushions where readers can sit on the floor and hold books to read.

déjà vu

Déjà vu is located in a two-story retro building in the Film Industrial Park of Tonghui North Road, Dawang Road, quietly waiting there as if for your presence.

The bookstore has three floors. The interior is decorated in Japanese style and cute. The cat element, the old furniture of the Mid-Century Modern Style, and the decorations of childhood objects, everything is full of nostalgia and stories. It looks like the owner has carefully designed it for a long time. Best for freeing minds.

Most people gather on the first floor and so do many kinds of books. There are Chinese and foreign essays, novels, and art books including, photography, comics, etc. You can walk for a long time on each floor. At the end of the first floor is an outdoor courtyard. Sitting on a rattan chair under the tree to read comfortably, the sun shines down on the courtyard... Once sitting, an afternoon passes unconsciously.

The basement level is spacious, and there are many originals, including original foreign ones. When collecting a copy, it feels like finding a treasure. There are also many life, history, and children's picture books. There are no seats in the store, and everyone sits on the floor, feeling comfortable and at ease. Reading books is happy and casual.

On the second floor is the store, mainly some original denim clothing, which is full of the Mid-Century Modern Style. There are also many little cute things that are well worth visiting.

Time flies fast here, and the afternoon has passed in a blink of an eye. Most of the books in the store are second-hand, starting at 90% off the original price. Many of the books are almost brand new. There is an in-store QR code on the back of each book, and the current price of the book can be displayed by scanning the code.

In addition, déjà vu was first developed online. You can search for déjà vu mini-program in Wechat. The second-hand books online are all professionally disinfected and refurbished and finally delivered to you. Many books that are not available in bookstores can be found online

Mofanshuju Bookstore, Poetic Space

After visiting so many Internet-famous bookstores, this bookstore is really worthy of the name !

The “Mofanshuju Bookstore, Poetic Space” bookstore has opened for more than two years and has been Beijing’s most beautiful bookstore. I finally came to see it in person. (mainly, living in Chaoyang District, I rarely come to Xicheng District.)

The predecessor of Model Bookstore·Poetry Space is the Chinese Anglican Church, the first church built by the Anglican Church in Beijing. It was built in 1907 and has been 115 years since then, with the overall buildings still intact. After 1949, the Anglican Church gradually withdrew from mainland China, so it became the warehouse of the Beijing TV Technology Research Institute. It was acquired by a Hong Kong-funded enterprise in the 1990s and renovated into an office space. After refurbishment in 2019, it became the current bookstore.

It is said that this is the only church bookstore in China. This building represents the retro style of the Beijing Cathedral after 1900. The building materials are made of Chinese-style blue bricks and gray tube tiles, making the overall style quite similar to traditional Chinese architecture. And the details are all in typical European architectural style. There is a Chinese-style octagonal pavilion as the bell tower and skylight of the church, and a circular rose window on the gable above the main entrance, which also reflects the traces of Gothic architecture.

The books here are mostly humanities and social sciences, and there are also many famous series and old editions. There are no rules for the display: they are all seemingly random stacking, but they are very harmonious with the retro bookshelf.

Yanjiyou Bookstore (Livat Shopping Center, Xihongmen)

The location of Livat Shopping Center is relatively remote. It is on the edge of the South Fourth Ring Road in Daxing District, Xihongmen Station of Line 4 of Daxing Line.

Compared with the pedestrians who walking outside the bookstore, Yanjiyou seems to be a different world. This world is different from the world of the shopping mall outside. This place seems to be the paradise that Borges said.

Yanjiyou is also a cultural space that integrates culture and life. A dazzling array of books and culturally creative products make the whole bookstore look scholarly.

Yanjiyou's books are very rich, including Chinese literature, foreign literature, historical geography, art design, and other categories of books. What is even more gratifying is that Yanjiyou bookstore is the one with the most sample books in all the bookstores I have been to. In the store, there are a lot of sample books on the shelves for people to look at. Those sample books are covered with plastic covers and printed with the words "sample books". I believe that everyone who has read them will be careful.

There are very few people in the bookstore. Some people are reading on the sofa, and some are staring at the bookshelves. They do not interfere with each other, forming a very quiet and comfortable reading space. I was pleasantly surprised to have such a quiet place in such a huge mall.
