Xiaoxitian was built in 1768 and completed in 1770. It was built by the Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty for the birthday blessing of his mother, the Empress Dowager Xiaosheng. With a total area of 1,200m² and a beam span of 13.5m, the main building, Pure Land, is the largest square pavilion-style palace building in China. The four windows of the palace are decorated with flower patterns, and a gold plaque is hung from a high place in the palace, which reads "Ji Le Shi Jie (Pure Land)" in the handwriting of the Emperor Qianlong. Above is a golden dragon caisson with an octagonal vault. The hall is surrounded by water on all sides, and there are bridges to pass. There is a glazed pagoda in the east, west, north and south, and a small square pavilion in each of the four corners. In the south, there is a crescent river and a stone bridge. There is a clay sculpture of the South Sea Putuo in the hall. On the mountain of the sculpture, there are 260 Luohan Buddha statues. At the feet of the mountain is painted with sea water, symbolizing the realm of Buddha Putuo. Therefore, it has the name of "Luohan Mountain" or "Hai Island".
