When the Lantern Festival arrives, lanterns become popular in particular. Although the lanterns of the Lantern Festival come from life, they are not simply for lighting, but more of a symbol of good luck and reunion. Decorations and lanterns are necessary for festivals! The Seal Carving Experience Center of the China Millennium Monument invites you to and your family to make lanterns together and pass down the folklore.

Activity contentLanterns have a long history of production and have changed greatly with the times in terms of materials and shapes. Paper, bamboo, silk and wood are common traditional materials, while plastic, cellophane and acrylic are modern materials. There is unlimited room for imagination in its material variations.

These materials are colorfully tied, framed, knotted, embroidered, carved, and then decorated with paper-cutting, calligraphy, painting, poetry and other decorations. A comprehensive craft made from these materials is the traditional Chinese folk handicraft - lantern.

In this activity, you can experience assembling and making lanterns and drawing lantern fan patterns yourself. You can also color the lantern stands and create lanterns with your own personal characteristics.

Instructor Chen XiaohongChen Xiaohong is an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage project "Beijing Palace Lantern" and has a unique and creative approach to the process of making palace lanterns. One of her works has been patented with innovative design and has won an award of excellence. She has been engaged in handicraft research and teaching for many years. She specializes in teaching a variety of traditional handicraft techniques, such as palace lanterns and knot art, making an outstanding contribution to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.
