Summer ends and autumn is here, the weather by the end of August is neither too hot nor too cold.

In order to facilitate citizens to travel on holidays, the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism recommends 18 themed routes of “Red Tourism in Spring”, including many classic red tourism spots in Beijing, which allow citizens to enjoy the beautiful scenery at the same time.

Route 1: Paying Tribute to Heroes and Martyrs

Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery - Shougang Industrial Cultural Tourism Zone - Beijing Yongdinghe Leisure Forest Park

The Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery is the most famous garden-style cemetery in China of the highest level. It is used to bury the deceased CPC and Government leaders, leaders of Democratic Party, patriotic democrats, famous scientists, writers, senior engineering and technical personnel, international friends, revolutionary martyrs and leading cadres at or above county level. Every Qingming season, in addition to assisting people to sweep their family members’ tombs to ease sadness, the cemetery also carries out various red cultural activities. For example, a large-scale “Red Public Memorial” event held by the Joint Revolutionary Cemetery of Shijingshan District Committee is held every year at Ren Bishi Red Education Plaza.

The Yongding River Leisure Forest Park in Beijing covers an area of 121 hectares, embellishing the connotation of the Yongding River culture with sculptures, stone tablets, landscape walls, and paving. Jingshan Park locates behind the north gate of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It is said that Ming Chengzu Zhu Di built the City and Palace on a large scale during his reign, and piled the soil of digged from Tongzi River and the South China Sea into this hill, called “Long Live Mountain”. It was later renamed as “Jingshan” in the Qing Dynasty, and remained an exclusive scenery of the royal family. During the Republic of China, Jingshan was opened as a park to the public. The highest point of Jingshan is only more than 40 m, but the Wanchun Pavilion standing on its central axis overlooks the Forbidden City, its red walls and yellow tiles, and magnificent gold and blue colour. On the west, you can see Beihai Park, the White Pagoda (Baita) and Qionghua Island, with blue water and Painted Boat (Huafang); across the back street of Jingshan to the north, you can see the Bell Tower and Drum Tower; and in the east you’ll find  and an ancient Hutong block on the back street of the beach. This is the best stand for viewing the scenery of Beijing.

The Beijing New Culture Movement Memorial Hall (Peking University Red Building) is the only comprehensive museum in China that fully displays the history of the May 4th New Culture Movement. Peking University Red Building is the main site of the Chinese New Culture Movement and the source of the May 4th Patriotic Movement. The museum has launched the basic display of “The Pioneer of the New Era”, as well as themed displays of important figures of the New Cultural Movement, Cai Yuanpei and Chen Duxiu, etc., and restored some old sites such as the office of the director of Li Dazhao Library and the reading room where Mao Zedong worked. There are a total of 1,198 real objects being exhibited, trying to reproduce the original style of the Peking University Red Building in the 1920s.

Lu Xun Museum - White Pagoda - Xihai Wetland Park

The Lu Xun Museum has a collection of more than 97,600 pieces of cultural relics and books. Baita Temple is a Gelug monastery of Tibetan Buddhism. The Temple was built in the Yuan Dynasty, and was originally named “Dashengshou Wan’an Temple”. The White Pagoda inside was built in the Yuan Dynasty and is the oldest and largest lama pagoda in existence in China. On the southwest side of the White Pagoda Temple, there is a White Pagoda Youth Hostel. On the third floor of the café is a glass rooms, with glasses on all three sides, you will find the beautiful White Pagoda completely inlaid with windows at all angles. Come to the Light of the White Pagoda during the Qingming Festival to drink a cup of Buddhist coffee and sit in the best position of the White Pagoda to see it from all sides. I can’t imagine anything more enjoyable than this.

Xihai Wetland Park is located in the core area of Beijing, by the West Sea of Shichahai, Deshengmen. It is surrounded by Huitong Temple, Sanguan Temple, Jingye Temple, Puji Temple, Deshengmen Arrow Tower and other historical sites. The famous writer Lao She describes this place as “Embankment surrounded by willows, thousands of hectares of lotus flowers and reed bushes, with flocks of ducks and cicadas”. Taoranting Park - Fayuan Temple - Former Residence of Li Dazhao

Taoranting Park is located on the northwest side of Taoran Bridge on the S. 2nd Ring Road in Beijing. It is a modern new urban garden that integrates ancient and modern gardening art and focuses on highlighting the Chinese pavilion culture. Li Dazhao’s former residence is a small triple courtyard, with 3 north rooms, 2 east and west ear rooms (Er Fang), and 3 east and west side rooms (Xiang Fang). Yanhuang Art Museum - Olympic Park - Olympic Forest Park

Yanhuang Art Museum is the first large-scale art museum in China established by artist Huang Zhou. Heishanhu Anti-Japanese War Memorial Park - Baiwang Mountain Forest Park - Kuangbiao Paradise

The Heishanhu Anti-Japanese War Memorial Park is located in the Baiwang Mountain Forest Park in Houshan, Haidian. It was built on the site of the former Heishanhu War of Anti-Japanese War to commemorate the battle of Heishanhu in Baiwang Mountain in 1937 and martyrs who died during the battle. The main body of the memorial garden was designed by Hou Yimin, professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and President of the China Mural Association, and completed by Du Fei, professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The memorial park covers an area of more than 600 ㎡ and is composed of three parts: inscriptions, sculptures and commemorative walls. At present, they have established a special red tourist route, and the Montenegrin Anti-Japanese Battle Memorial Park has become a place for elementary and middle school students, party members, regiment members, and the general public to receive patriotism education.

The main peak in Baiwang Mountain Forest Park is 210 meters above sea level. It is abruptly tall and has the reputation of “the first peak of Taihang Outpost”. The park covers an area of more than 2,000 acres, with dense forests and a vegetation coverage rate of more than 95%. It is known as the urban oxygen source in Beijing.

Kuangbiao Paradise is located in Sujiatuo Scenic Tourist Area, Haidian District, Beijing. It is blessed with beautiful scenery and enjoys convenient transportation. It is attached to the Daxishan Tourist Belt and is known as the “Nanshan Fifth Scenic Area”. It is backed by Balcony Mountain Scenic Tourist Area and near Jingmi Diversion Channel. It locates south of the 6th Ring Road, with, the new scenic area of Cuihu Wetland in the east, and the Dajue Temple, Fenghuangling, Miaofeng Mountain, Jiufeng and many other scenic spots in the west. The total area is about 6000 mu. A couple of projects have been completed and put into use, including: go-karting, CS, off-road motorcycle racing, off-road racing, equestrian racing, golf, etc.

Wucai Mount. Qian Waterfront National Hiking and Fitness Trail is located on the Yanshan Mountains in the Wucai Mount. Route 12: Pinggu Jidong Anti-Japanese Tour

Beijing Pinggu Yuzi Mountain Anti-Japanese War Memorial - Pinggu Jidong Anti-Japanese Base Site

Pinggu Yuzishan Anti-Japanese War Memorial is located beside the Jingdong Grand Canyon scenic spot, 85 km away from the downtown area. The continuous mountains on both sides form a natural barrier. The memorial was originally the site of the Yuzishan Ordnance Repair Centre, and it was the location of the 18th Military Division Military Repair in the Jidong Military Region during the Anti-Japanese War. The memorial was built in 1996 and officially opened to the public in 1997.

The orihinal site of the Pinggu Jidong Anti-Japanese Base is the base of the Anti-Japanese War after the enemy in the eastern part of the war. Local soldiers and civilians waged a desperate struggle with the invaders in this green mountain and clear water, and sacrificed a lot for victory. In the summer of 1938, the Fourth Column of the Eighth Route Army officially advanced into Jidong and opened a new guerrilla zone behind the enemy. The third detachment was active in Pinggu, Miyun, Xinglong and Jixian. In the area of Taopeng Village and Yuzi Mountain, the Eighth Route Army has successively established joint county committees, local committees, district special agencies, and other agencies. Jiao Ruoyu, commissioner of the Jidong Special Administrative Office, and Bao Sen, deputy commander of the military region and head of the 13th Regiment, had also commanded Jidong’s anti-Japanese struggle here. In July 1940, five communist members established the first party branch in Pinggu County in the cliff cave of Taopeng North Mountain. Under the leadership of the CPC, the local people fought one after another with the Japanese invaders through sparrow wars, landmine warfare, etc., so it was still known as “Unbeatable Yuzi Mountain” at that time.

Pingbei Anti-Japanese Martyrs Memorial Park - Qushui River Forest Park - Shatanggou Village

Pingbei Anti-Japanese Martyrs Memorial Park is located at the entrance of Longqingxia Gorge in Yanqing District, a famous tourist area in Beijing. It is composed of the Martyrs Cemetery, Monument and Memorial Hall. The Memorial displays the history of Pingbei’s military and civilian resistance against the Japanese invasion in Mar. 1933 to Sep. 1945. It is an important base for people to look squarely at history and rely on their martyrs to carry out revolutionary and patriotic education.

The Weishui River Forest Park is built along the Weishui River, starting from the Caoguanying Reservoir in the east, Kangzhang Bridge in the west, and Sanlihe Wetland Park in the north, covering an area of 1026 hectares, with Fuxiang Garden, Banshan Lake, and the Goddess of Weishui, etc. There are also perfect and comfortable cycling lanes and hiking trails inside the Park.

Jirecha Marching Command Headquarters Exhibition Hall is the first village-level exhibition hall built by farmers in Beijing. Cuandixia Village is located in Zhaitang Town, Mentougou District, west suburb of Beijing. It was named after the “Cuanliankou” (locally called Cuantou) in the Ming Dynasty. The ancient village ruins of the Ming Dynasty, murals of houses in the Qing Dynasty, the ruins of houses burned by the Japanese army, the ruins of the anti-Japanese post, anti-Japanese slogans and other ancient buildings are still well-preserved.

Beijing Red Star Education Base - China Printing Museum - Beijing Wildlife Park

Beijing Red Star Education Base is located in Zhenyazhuang South on central axis road in the south of Beijing. It belongs to the Capital Agricultural Group and is a key urban agricultural project in the south of Beijing. Yunmengshan Great Wall Ruins Park - Bai Yihua Martyr Memorial Hall - Hero Mother Deng Yufen Sculpture Themed Square

Yunmengshan Great Wall Ruins Park is located on the eastern edge of Yunmeng Mountain in Miyun District, which got its beauty from nature. Some of the existing Great Wall ruins in the Park belong to the Northern Qi Dynasty, and most of them were repaired in the early Ming Dynasty. The Great Wall is a unilateral inner wall of pure stone structure, extending from the northeast to the southwest, just like a majestic stone dragon, floating on the top of the rolling mountain.

The Hero Mother Deng Yufen Sculpture Theme Square covers a total area of 6,200 ㎡. The sculpture is 5 m high, and is made of granite. The sculpture depicts a standing posture, and the hero mother Deng Yufen stands among the rocks. Mother Deng had cloth shoes in her hands and clothes on her arms, with seven peace pigeons on the rocks, symbolizing her seven loved families.
