On May 20th, the 15th Xiji Big Cherry-Picking Event in Xiji Town, Tongzhou District, Beijing was held at Julong Agricultural Union! The picking price of Xiji cherries basically ranges from 40 to 100 yuan per 500g, and the picking season will last until mid-June, which means the picking period will last for a full month!
It is well-known that “cherries are delicious while planting trees is a difficult task”, but as a world-recognized golden fruit belt at 40° north latitude, the Xiji is blessed with favorable geographical location, and just meets the conditions of cherry planting. There are more than ten high-quality varieties planted in an area of more than 11,000 mu (about 1,812 acres), such as Red Lantern, Rainier, Sweetheart, Black Star, Summit, etc.

1. Julong Agricultural Union
Walking in the cherry orchard of Julong Agricultural Union, the red cherries shine with gem-like light. How attractive they are! Pick a big cherry and put it in your mouth - the bursting juice will sweeten your whole body. You will only understand that feeling when you personally experience it!
Every single cherry here becomes mature naturally, pesticides are forbidden, and farm fertilizer is used for these pure natural green organic fruits. 2. Jinguo Tiandi Manor
The cherry-picking orchard of Jinguo Tiandi Manor is located in Nanxiaozhuang Village, Xiji Town, Tongzhou District. It is the only low-rooted dense planting and breeding base in Tongzhou District. Covering an area of 120 mu (about 20 acres), it is an excellent modern green organic model orchard in Beijing. There are 35 varieties of cherry, including Red Lantern, Brooks and Summit. The sugar content of imported cherries reaches 18-26 degrees. Taking the cherries one by one into your mouth, you will feel the sweetness in your heart.
The dwarfed densely planted fruit tree seedlings here are planted in rows with 3m spaces. Each tree is 1 meter away from each other, with the coverage area of 1㎡ and height of 3m. The tree has a peculiar shape, with a sky-high trunk and low horizontal branches covered with cherries. Under the green leaves, the cherries are as bright as rubies, attracting people longing for them. They are quite easy to be picked by hand, when taste carefully, you can capture the sour but sweet long-lasting flavour. For little kids, they don’t even need a ladder to reach the cherries, thus both adults and children can enjoy the great fun of picking fruits in person.

3. Beijing Zhengjia Ecological Agriculture Picking Orchard
The Zhengjia Ecological Agricultural Orchard is mainly planted with cherries. The organic cherry planting area is 320 mu (about 53 acres), with more than 3,000 cherry trees in the fruiting period of more than ten years, and the output of each tree is 40 ~ 80 kg.
While maintaining the purest fruit taste, Zhengjia cherry also guarantees its safety towards human health. The average single fruit weight is about 17 grams, the average longitudinal diameter is 28 cm, and the maximum single fruit weight can reach 23 g.
Zhengjia cherries are large in fruit size but with small seeds and thick pulp, and is known for its rich and mellow flavour. Its natural sweetness is as high as 26, which makes the cherry planting experts who come to pick samples praise.
In 2009, the fruit of Zhengjia Ecological Agriculture Orchard passed the national organic product certification and obtained the national geographical indication certificate of organic big cherry.

5. Beijing Red Cherry Orchard
Beijing Red Cherry Orchard is located in the west of Shagudui Village, Xiji Town, Tongzhou District, on the east bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is located at the gateway of the cherry producing area of Xiji Town. The orchard covers an area of 120 acres and is mainly planted with large cherries, including Red Lantern, Meizao, Rainier, Sunburst, Pioneer and Brooks. The orchard is divided on the south and north sides of the Tongxiang Highway. The south area occupies 50 mu (about 8 acres), and the 10-year-old trees are grown in the open field. The north area is mainly for facility cherry cultivation, new variety display, and seedling bases, 30 mu (about 5 acres) of which is a cherry seedling base, and 12 mu (about 2 acres) of which is for cherry facilities.
It is the core competence of the Orchard to breed big fruits with rich flavours, pulpy taste and bright colourto meet market demands. In 2013, they established a 30-mu (about 5 acres) cherry seedling land, and adopted the technique of sticking and fruiting in the greenhouse to quickly identify the taste and appearance of the varieties. At present, the varieties suitable to be planted in Beijing are: Rainier, Hanxiang, Meizao, Sunburst, Red Lantern, Pioneer, Zaodaguo, etc.

6. Beijing Xiji Langdong Big Cherry Professional Cooperative
Langdong Village, Xiji Town, Tongzhou District is located about 10 kilometers west of the Xiji Town Government, about 1 km from the Langfu Exit of the Jingha Expressway, and is close to Jingshen Road in the north. There are tall trees and poplars along the way as the borderline, forming the unique microclimate of the village cherry orchard in Langdong.
The cooperative was established in 2008 by 17 farmer households. The cooperative has unified management, pruning plan, purchase of organic fertilizer and packaging and selling price. The cooperative’s cherry planting area is 190 mu (about 31 acres), among which 90 mu (about 15 acres) have entered the full fruit period. The main varieties include Red Lanterns (accounting for 80% of the total), Red Sweet, Hongyan, Italian Early Red, Rainier, and Zaodaguo.
The cooperative has strict management. They have conducted timely pruning of the cherry trees, and decide the production according to the situation of the trees. Therefore, their cherries are nicely looked and sweetly tasted, are large and can be storaged for quite long time. They also provide pickers with organic farm meals, allowing them to taste vegetables they planted and chickens they fed.
