2019-05-29

The Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition has attracted numerous tourists since its opening on April 29. Follow us to discover the most stunning pavilions at the expo.

China Pavilion

Stands at the center of the site, the China Pavilion takes inspiration from Ruyi, a traditional Chinese jade ornament symbolizing good fortune, with the imagery of gliding along green meadows and rivers. Taking up a floor area of 23,000 square meters, China Pavilion displays a wide variety of plant species from across China and showcase the history of Chinese gardening and horticulture.

Internatinal Pavilion

The International Pavilion, which covers a total construction area of 22,000 square meters, serves as an indoor exhibition venue for participating countries, regions and horticultural organizations in the international arena.

Features a sea of flowers and zigzagging streams, blossoms are weaved into 94 umbrellas to create a sea of flowers. This floral ocean opens up as an enormous sunshade, shielding the area from the summer heat to provide a pleasant recreational area. When night falls, the floodlights on the umbrella leaves create a colorful night scene for the stadium.

Botanic Garden

The Botanic Garden, one of the 4 major pavilions of Beijing International Horticultural Exhibition 2019, houses over 1,000 varieties of plant.

With a design concept of "rising horizon," the Botanic Garden possesses huge potential to be the most Instagrammable space and to draw the most crowds.

From mangrove forests to insectivorous plants, from poison arrow trees to miracle berries, the Garden shows an interesting and incredible plant kingdom. Occupying the first floor of Botanic Garden is the tropical greenhouse, covering an area of about 3,000 square meters and housing more than 600 precious plants, including the mangrove forest, tropical rain forest, palm, and others. It shows the diversity of the vegetable kingdom and the wisdom of the plants to survive and adapt to the environment.

Situated inside the Botanic Garden, "Continuous Life in a Beautiful World," is an interactive digital installation designed by award-winning teamLab from Tokyo and starts from a life-sized mangrove forest and changes interactively according to the presence of visitors.

Guirui Theater

The Guirui Theater serves as the site for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Expo 2019. Empowered by butterfly, the building resembles a colorful, dancing butterfly. The center's roof is covered with an ultra-thin membrane, less than 0.22 millimeters thick and with a light transmittance of 20 to 40 percent, which allows good use of natural light.
