

Xihuang Temple is a Buddhist temple built as the residence of the 5th Dalai Lama in 1652, 9th year of the Shunzhi period in the Qing Dynasty. The Xihuang Temple and Donghuang Temple on the same street are called Shuanghuang Temple or Huang Temple.


The temple was open to the public as Xihuang Temple on May 18, 2018, the 42nd International Museum Day. The temple is composed of three courtyards with a building area of more than 900 square meters. The museum contains Buddhist pagoda relics, Buddha statues, Thangka paintings, and Buddhist ceramic artworks. Xihuang Temple is a single building art masterpiece of the Qing Dynasty integrating the Chinese, Tibetan and Indian artistic forms.
