The International Horticultural Exhibition 2019 (Beijing Expo 2019) will take place in the Yanqing District of Beijing from April 29 to Oct 7. To make the most of the expo, Beijing Expo 2019 has released three attractive tourist routes for visitors. The three tourist itineraries combine natural landscapes, gardens and culture and are ideal choices for people to seek leisure and recreation, enjoy family activities, maintain health, and purify mind.
Along the tourist route of “Delicious Foods and Picturesque Scenery,” travelers can visit the nearby Badaling Great Wall, taste Yanqing’s local snacks and delicacies from around the world, go camping, and enjoy the picturesque scenery and starry nights in Expo Park.
Day 1: Beijing Expo 2019 - Camping in Yanqing

Travelers can enjoy the picturesque scenery in the daytime and take photo of glittering venues of the Beijing Expo 2019 and starry nights. Beijing Expo 2019 skillfully mingles unique architectures with landscapes, making them be harmoniously integrated into nature. The China Pavilion revives the charm of classical Chinese architecture and showcases the splendor of the Chinese Dream. The International Pavilion features a sea of flowers and zigzagging streams. The Life Experience Pavilion presents a countryside market that kindles visitors’ reminiscence of rural life. The Vegetation Pavilion, with a theme on plants, inspires tourists to care for nature. The Performing Arts Center looks like a butterfly dancing amidst mountains and rivers and provides colorful performances that add colors to people’s lives.
In addition, the Expo Park also includes the Tiantian Hill featuring vast croplands and blooming mountain flowers, the poetic Guirui Lake featuring rippling water, and the Yongning Pavilion where once can overlook the Great Wall in the south and the Haituo Mountain in the north. The Chinese gardens concentrate horticultural achievements of 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, while international gardens will showcase the quintessence of rare flowers and various genres of horticulture from more than 70 countries.
Shijinglong Tent Park
The Shijinglong Tent Park is the first tent-themed park in the world, lying amid extraordinary sceneries, covered in white snow in winter and lush grass in summer. The large open site with plain and rolling hills can hold 100 tents for picnic, camping and barbecue. There is also a variety of facilities and activities, such as Zorb ball, trampoline, prompt dropping, shooting arrows, catching fish in water, and pillow fight. There will be bands performing at night in the park on weekends.

Longwan International Camping Park
Adjacent to noted scenic spots like Badaling and Longqing Valley, Longwan International Camping Park consists of a main plaza, main camp zone, recreational vehicle (RV) camp zone, children's recreation area, mobile cabin area, tent camp zone, arcum tent zone, service center, etc. covering an area of about 1.8 million square meters.

Day Two: Yongning Ancient Town-Badaling Great Wall
Yongning Ancient Town
Yongning Ancient Town, 18 km away from downtown Yanqing of Beijing, was first built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). As the most significant cultural town in Beijing Suburbs, Yongning Ancient Town boasts not only classic Chinese architectures but also a unique western building - Catholic Church.Looking at the ancient city from the mountainside after crossing through mountains and the Great Wall, you will see that it is sitting into a small basin that was once a logistics center beyond the Great Wall at that time. Standing at one end of the ancient street which is so straight that you can see the other end of the street at a glance, you may see the bright door of Yuhuang Pavilion in the distance from the tidy shops on both sides of the street.

Yanqing Huoshao
Yanqing’s Huoshao is baked with spiced salt. When it is ready to eat, it grows tender on the inside contains and crisp on the outside. On one side, it has bronze-coin-shaped and tiger-skin-colored sear. Roast one side and bake the other side until they are ready to eat. A sip of it would give you a crispy and delicious mouthfeel, with thick wheat fragrance and spiced saltiness lingering around your mouth. As one of Yanqing’s famous specialties, it is hailed as one of Yanqing’s “Ten Distinctive Culture Heritage”.
Yuanfu Tie Guo Dun
This restaurant is an ideal rest area nearby the scenic spot, where you can also enjoy palatable rustic hotchpotch. Specialties of this restaurant are stewed goose, free-range chicken, fish from Guanting Reservoir, lamb chop and beef in iron pot. With a garnish of corn cake and other wheaten food decorated on the edge of the pot, the steaming dish gives out thick fragrance. Ranking top of the “Gourmet List of Yanqing”, “Yuanfu” will present you a memorable feast for your eyes and palate.

Badaling Great Wall
Badaling Great Wall is the one of the best sections presenting the magnificence and precipitousness of the Great Wall. As a defender of Beijing, it boasts overlapping mountains and advantageous strategic position. The majestic walls swirl from north to south and then extend into the mountains beyond your sight. On the precipitous cliffs are two Chinese characters saying “natural barrier” wrote by someone in ancient times and exactly embodying its military significance.
Bus: Taking bus is the cheapest way to Badaling Great Wall. Take subway line 2 to Deshengmen and transfer Bus 877 to Badaling.
Tour line: It takes one hour to get here by tour line bus which starts off on the east side of Qianmenlou of Beijing every morning with round-trip ticket price of 90 Yuan/person.
