The Vernal Equinox, one of Chinese 24 solar terms, marks the middle of spring when the sun is straight overhead the equator. Featuring breeze, blossoms and the splendor of spring, Beijing embraces best time for spring outing. There is nothing more freely than flying kites in spring. In such pleasant days, the Kite Festival of Mamahua will open its curtain.

Beijing kite is a traditional handicraft of the Han Chinese. People usually fly a variety of kites during traditional festivals, among which the most representative kite is the swallow kite. Beijing kite has been developing in recent years. A lot of masters and novices have their own strengths. Some are good at making giant kites, like a large dragon of 90 meters long and 120 sections; some are good at making tiny ones, such as palm swallow, which is only several centimeters long. On April 5, the first day of the festival, inheritors of traditional Beijing kites will be invited to bring guests an authentic cultural gourmet. Meanwhile, guests can make a kite by themselves during their stay in Mamahuade Shanpo.
