Ringing Bells for Good Fortune in Jietai Temple

Ringing bells and blessing on New Year' s Eve are traditional Chinese cultural customs and also an annually important activity of Jietai Temple. This year, the activity "Ringing Bells for Good Fortune" will be held in Jietai Temple on the evening of December 31st, 2018. According to the tradition, the bell will be rung for 108 times amidst chants of Sanskrit to celebrate the New Year.

Blessing activities:

Auspicious belts are tied on the trees in front of Shanmen for longevity.

Auspicious lanterns are specially arranged in front of the main Hall for good fortune.

Worship Gods of wealth in Caishen (God of Wealth) Hall for prosperity.

Buddhist lucky bags are distributed for free.

Monks in Jietai Temple will chant sutra for blessing in Dazhongting (Big Bell Pavilion).

Countdown ceremony will be held to celebrate the coming New Year.

Details:

1. Buy ring bell tickets at 20:00 on December 31, 2018 (no discount tickets) and get a blessing belt for free.

2. Join the monastic group at the main hall to welcome the arrival of the 2019 at 23:30. After chanting, visitors and monks will lighten the auspicious lotus lanterns then pass the lantern to monks for blessing.

3. Arrive at Dazhongting (Big Bell Pavilion) at 23:50 and line up a for bell ringing.

4. Receive "the New Year' s Buddhist lucky bags and lucky agate pendants" at Dahzongting (Big Bell Pavilion) while the stock lasts.

5. Enjoy the New Year's Buddhist cuisines at the Dazhai Hall at 00:30 on January 1, 2019. Learn Buddhism culture by eating food in accordance with special manners.

Activity areas: the Dazhongting (Big Bell Pavilion), the Shanmen Square, the main hall, the Dazhai Hall, the Mingsong Avenue, the Caishen (God of Wealth) Hall and other areas.

1. Drive westward along Jingyuan Road out of Yamenkou Bridge (Lianshi West Road), and then drive along the side road of National Highway 108 for about 7 kilometers to the destination. (Road signs can be seen along the way)
