It is said that Luo Hong Art Museum is the largest afternoon tea spot in Beijing. Luo Hong, founder of the museum, is a photographer and businessman who has established one of the China’s largest company for consumer baked goods, Haolilai.
Before entering the building, you may wish to take a short tour of the beautifully landscaped gardens, replete with ponds full of carp and black swans, lulling you into an illusion that you were standing in a natural reserve where all things fall into place. With the skillful use of pure white and lucency, this stretch of land is basking in gorgeous light and shade.
Usually, the visit starts with a dramatic cinematic presentation of the photographer's travels. Then you wander through the extensive and elegantly designed galleries with different themes. The immense photographs are superbly displayed; many are cute, some very moving. Throughout the galleries there is adequate seating to encourage you to linger and appreciate what you are seeing. And it would be worthy of ordering a beautiful cake and a pot of tea, which are made by a three-star Michelin chef in Black Swan afternoon tea restaurant. There is indoor seating, but if the weather is fine it is better to sit on the terrace overlooking a landscaped lake.
