Guanchangwang (King of Sausages)

This must be the only yummiest fried sausage in Beijing. The sausage is cut in different sizes, thin or thick, and fired in fresh oil mixed with chicken fat. Other delicate dishes include Crayfish, Spicy Escargots, Pork with Garlic Sauce, Hot and Sour Rice Noodles and Wonton.

Laohuihui Snacks

Soybean-Flour Cake served here has the minimum level of sweetness compared with others, and is a bit chewy, not as soft as Aiwowo (Steamed Rice Cake with Sweet Stuffing) which is fancied by many people owing to its soft skin and its rich stuffing integrating sticky rice and various materials like walnut, shelled melon-seeds, sesame, Chinese yam mud and beans. Tanghuajuan (Sugary Steamed Twisted Roll) receives much praise from people because of its great taste and genuine material. It is not only suitable as a staple food but a dessert, due to its lower sweetness than that of Tanghuoshao (a sugar-roasted sesame bun) which is totally brown by baking, full of black sugar on each layer, and thus wins my heart because I prefer sweet food, especially the super sweet food. Cowhells is very chewy but soft like fat meat, which is perfected by vinegar from my personal perspective. This is a great snack shop where you can enjoy a variety of Beijing-flavored snacks and forget you’re on diet.

Gan’s Crusty Pancake

Whenever you go to this shop in Shibao Street, in front of it is always crowds of people who are waiting for the crusty pancakes. It tastes very crisp, with its stuffing salty and a bit oily but not greasy when it is hot. It is a bit hard, however, when it is cold, so you have to finish it before it becomes cold. The price is only 9 Yuan for one piece which is relatively inexpensive.

Mr. Li Xiaolao’s Sesame Seed Cake

Speaking of sesame seed cake, there is a strongly recommended shop named Mr. Li Xiaolao’s Baked Cake where you can totally get full only at the cost of less than 10 Yuan - sesame seed cakes stuffed with chopped beef (3 Yuan for one), vege sesame seed cake with sesame sauce (1.2 Yuan for one), Baozi stuffed with fennel or chive and egg (1.5 Yuan for one),Doupaotang (fried tofu in soup which is a popular Beijing breakfast snack) (3 Yuan for one bowl). Once we even met a lady who came here by subway from far awayarea just for 50 vege sesame seed cakes and 2 sesame seed cakes stuffed with chopped beef. It totally proves how popular this shop is around Beijing.

Jiabei Hand-made Beef Noodles

Gaifan (noodles served with meat and vegetables on the top) sold at only more than 10 Yuan highlights an adequate amount and a great taste. At meal time, the restaurant is always full of neighboring residents and servers are also very busy, so that you have to help yourself for what you want. Gaifan with sufficient meat and handmade, chewy noodles is definitely the favorite of the “predators”. All ingredients are bought from market by the owner’s wife. Though the meals are not very striking, it absolutely warms your heart with family flavor. In winter, a plate of Gaifanand a free bowl of noodle soup on the side definitely satisfy your appetite.

“Crazy” Braciola

Most of the braciolas served here are within 10 Yuan. Due to their great taste and rich materials like meat, vegetable and egg, the braciolas are the popular breakfast for young people commuting to work. Chicken Braciola as a strongly recommended item is large in size and rich in ingredients of tender chicken and intense sweet sauce with a bit of spicy oil, absolutely making you feel full with only one piece.

Kaiwei Kangtudou (Fried Potato)

It is a shop attracting people who love fried potatoes, featuring a variety of flavors. The cute round potatoes fried in the big pot spread a strong fragrance even you can smell it through the screen. The cooked potatoes are scorched outside and tender inside, with sweet and spicy sauce on the side, which are so delicious that your tongue would be swallowed. You can only spend 16 Yuan on one large portion which is enough for two girls.
