The First Waterfall in Beijing: Breathe Fresh Air and Enjoy Pure Water

2020-10-09

Nestled in Liukeyu, Shicheng Township, Miyun District, the First Waterfall in Beijing is located 3km the north to Heilongtan and 103km away from the downtown area. As the largest streamflow waterfall in suburb, it is a combination of spring waters from Yunmen Mountain and has a drop of 62.5m and a slope at 85 degrees elevation. Entering the valley, you will first hear the thundering sound of the waterfall before seeing it. The water cascades over the cliff, flying and splashing with the appearance of jade from afar, and up close a dramatic mist rises from the waters. From a distance, you would marvel over the magnificent grandeur of the cloud-kissing height. While close up, you would wonder at the skyward spray from the rushing waterfall. To crown it all, the sunshine will cast a rainbow through the spray, presenting a picturesque beauty with splashes of color. Also beneath the waterfall lies a wondrous pond, expansively vast and bottomlessly deep. Inspired by the ultimate grandeur, generation upon generation of literati ever committed their inner admiration to poems.
