Museums Reviewing China's Development

National Museum of China

In February 2003, the National Museum of China was founded as a combination of National Museum of Chinese History and Museum of the Chinese Revolution. In March 2011, the museum resumed operation. Inside, there are two permanent exhibitions including “Ancient China” and “The Road of Rejuvenation”, and ten-odd special exhibitions and international cultural exchange exhibitions covering a complete range of art works. Notice: The museum is temporarily closed until further notice for exhibition installation.

Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall

Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall focuses on a display of past, now and future of the great city of Beijing. Stretched across four floors, the hall houses the “Bay of Beijing” Bronze Sculpture Exhibition, District and County Planning Exhibition, Ancient City Transition Exhibition, Urban Planning Model Exhibition, World Megacity Exhibition and Future Home Appliances Exhibition.

Beijing Police Museum

Founded on the former site of Beijing Branch of America’s Citibank, Beijing Police Museum was opened to the public in August 2001. Home to four exhibition halls, it boasts 7,000-plus collections including 1,500-odd ones on display.

China Railway Museum

China Railway Museum, also known as the former Zhengyangmen East Railway Station of the Jingfeng Railway, is colloquially referred to as Qianmen East Railway Station. In August 2008, Qianmen East Railway Station was remodeled into China Railway Museum (Qianmen) and opened to the public officially.

Beijing Xuannan Cultural Museum

Beijing Xuannan Cultural Museum focuses on a vivid display of the time-honored history and rich culture of Xuannan area. Inside, there are eight exhibition halls. Notably, the Great Revolutionaries’ Footprint Exhibition Hall offers a glimpse into the daily lives and revolutionary exploits of Sun Yat-sen, Chen Duxiu, Li Dazhao, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other China’s revolutionary pioneers who were always at the forefront of the time and dedicated themselves to exploring a road to national rejuvenation.

Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution

As China's only large comprehensive military museum, the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution was officially opened to the public on August 1, 1960. At present, it is home to more than 340,000 pieces of cultural relics and other collections in diverse kinds.

Museum of the War of Chinese People's Resistance Against Japanese Aggression

The Museum of the War of Chinese People’s Resistance against Japanese Aggression is China’s only large, comprehensive memorial hall that focuses on Chinese people’s anti-Japanese war. On July 7, 1987, a day marking the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of Lugou Bridge Incident, it was officially inaugurated and opened to the public. On July 7, 2005, Great Victory - In Honor of the 60th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War Large Theme Exhibition lifted its curtain officially.

Lugou Bridge, Wanping Fortress and Museum of the War of Chinese People’s Resistance against Japanese Aggression have the distinction of being the first batch of red tourism scenic areas designated by the State and Beijing Municipal Government.
