Joel, the owner of Toast at The Orchid, is a Montreal native in Canada who had studied continental cuisine at the St.Pius X cooking school. He came to Beijing in 2004 and opened the boutique hotel in Baochao Hutong in 2011. With a decent courtyard design, the Orchid was once selected as the venue for Beijing Design Week. In a welcomed environment, Joel also designs dishes personally to bring diversified daintiness to friends and guests. His experience in restaurant makes the dishes sought-after. As the name “Orchid” indicates, Joel does not live up to such an elegant name, making the hotel a quiet space with green plants. As a hotel that “hides” in the narrow Baochao Hutong, you can only find its entrance by walking along the alley to the end where a wooden sign hanging on the wall that is engraved with “The Orchid.
