Olympic Forest Park

The Olympic Forest Park is located at the northern end of the central axis of Beijing and also north of the Olympic Park. The axis of the park links the urban landscape to the natural landscape. The park artificially built covers an area of 680 hectares. It is known as the back garden of the 29th Olympic Games. After the games, it became a recreation haven for Beijing residents. It is a comprehensive super-large ecological urban park, into which low-carbon technology is widely applied.

The South Park, occupying 380 hectares, features mountain ranges and water systems. The Yangshan Mountain and Aohai Lake are the major landscapes of the South Park. The North Park covers an area of about 300 hectares, featuring wild plants and dense forests. The major scenic spots of the park include the flower field (Huatian Yequ) and pagodas. The Yangshan Mountain of the South Park stands opposite to the Jingshan Mountain of the Yingshan Park. The two mountains together imply “respect and admiration” in Chinese. The Yangshan Mountain is 48 meters high, built with 5 million cubic meters of earth. The mountain also echoes with the Yanshan Mountains. The design not only conforms to the Chinese tradition in garden construction, but harmonizes with the surrounding environment. The large water surface we see is the main lake region, which is known as the Aohai Lake. The lake, together with the landscape river, forms the dragon-shaped water system of the Olympic Park. In Chinese myth and traditional culture, the dragon, as the most noble and sacred totem, is always associated with water. In this water system, the body of the dragon winds through the forest park, its open mouth faces the Qinghe River, and the tail surrounds the National Stadium. The Olympic Forest Park is the closest forest park to Beijing residents. The roadside tall arbors and colorful shrubs stretch several kilometers, offering a seemingly pleasant and fresh oasis.
