A Guide to Beijing Happy Valley

2018-08-06

Beijing Happy Valley, nestling at the foot of Beijing Inner City, is currently China’s most international and modern large theme amusement park. Covering an area of nearly 560,000m², the park is located in the southeast corner of Sifang Bridge in the East 4th Ring of Beijing. It is composed of seven theme areas, including Fjords & Forests, Happy Time, Atlantis, Aegean Port, the Lost Maya, Shangri-la and the Ant Kingdom. Together with a total of over 30 items of large rides and dozens of special performances, the park, integrating the classic civilization of the world into various theme areas, brings about extraordinary experience to tourists.

Rides in the park have maintained a number of world records. “Crystal Wing”, the first flying roller coaster in Asia, gives tourists the great experience of flying high above the sky. “Extreme Rusher”, an air-launched roller coaster that ranks fourth in Asia in terms of speed, can hit 135km/h in merely 3s. Among all rides in the park, breathtaking items are welcomed by young people, while other moderate equipment and performances can mesh with the needs of family visitors and the elderly. Standing on the 60-meter-high sightseeing tower “Energy Collector”, tourists can enjoy the beauty of the capital. In addition, featuring the only large indoor drift site in China, the park also offers a 15-minute indoor drift, allowing tourists to visualize touring the world. Beijing Happy Valley is an ideal destination to have fun for tourists at all ages.

Best time to travel: April, May, September and October In those months, Beijing is in comfortable temperature for travel and almost all rides in the park are open to tourists. The next best is the summer season from June to August, during which the summer vacation gives rise to the peak season with relatively more tourists. It always takes one or two hours to queue up for popular ride items. In the midday sun with intense heat, sun-protection articles are the musts. During each November 16 to next March 15, Beijing Happy Valley would shorten the opening hours from 14 hours in summer days to 6 or 7 due to the frigid weather. Although tourists can enjoy discounted fares, they would lose access to almost half of the rides.

Tourists are not recommended to play at Beijing Happy Valley during holidays and festivals to avoid the big crowd. Only 2 to 3 items of all rides at those days are available instead of 6 to 10 in ordinary days. Moreover, some hot items often require a queue of more than 3 hours during holidays and festivals.

Spending in the park: the overall consumption for both catering and shopping is relatively higher in the park. It is highly recommended to buy eatables and beverages outside before entering the park. Alternatively, buying from the shops right in front of the park, such as 7-Eleven, KFC, McDonald’s and Tesco, is also an expedient.

Notes: pay in cash only in the park. Extra charges are needed for some rides, including Mini Train, Drifting through Fairyland, Sight-seeing Car, Electrical Motorcycle, Virgin Forest’s Raining Season, and Happy Waterball.
