Saihanba National Forest Park: Where Clouds and Grass Meet

Situated on the Bashang area of Chengde, the Saihanba National Forest Park is the largest one in North China, which is a part of the royal hunting ground–Mulan Paddock in the Qing dynasty.

The forest park covers a total area of 940 square kilometers, including 706 square kilometers of forest landscape and 133 square kilometers of grassland landscape, and its forest coverage rate is 75.2%. Owing to the unique climate and long history, visitors can find special natural and cultural landscapes here: immense forests, vast grasslands, clear plateau lakes and historical sites of the Qing dynasty.

There are diversified plants and animals in Saihanba, including 81 families, 312 genera and 659 species of higher plants; 11 families and 25 species of beasts with the roe deer accounting for the majority; and 27 families and 88 species of birds with the black grouse holding the main portion. The people of the Man, Mongol, and Han nationalities have lived here for a long time. During the period, the national cultures mutually blended, giving birth to rich folk customs.

Famous Scenic Spots

There are Kangxi Dianjiang Site, Jiangjun Paozi, Saihan Lake, Saihan Tower, Ten Miles Gallery , etc. The monsoon climate of the cold temperate zone in Saihanba has special characteristics. In summer, it enjoys fresh air as well as pleasant climate with the highest temperature generally not exceeding 25 degrees centigrade. In autumn, the trees are dyed by different colors of the leaves and the maple ones spread over the hills. The winter here is a world of white snow, unfolding an enchanting scenery of the North China in front of us. Meanwhile, Saihanba is also one of the birthplaces of the Luanhe River and the Liaohe River. Benefiting from the geographical advantages as it is close to Beijing and Tianjin, it is a summer resort for sightseeing, an autumn destination for viewing maple leaves, and an eco-tourism attraction in winter for skiing.

Admission: a joint ticket for the Saihanba National Forest Park, the Yudaokou Scenic Area and the Hongsongwa Nature Reserve costs 150 yuan per person. To visit the Saihan Tower, you need to pay another admission of 25 yuan per person; if you want to take a trestle view or take a photo with the stone monument at the origin of the Luanhe River, you need to pay extra 5 yuan per person.
