As a comprehensive museum combining historical relics, art works and school history, Museum of Renmin University of China (hereinafter referred to as “the Museum”) mainly functions as a center of collection, exhibition, research and education. Covering an area of over 5,000 m2, the hall consists of the exhibition of school history, theme exhibition of museum collection, and temporary exhibition. The Museum now preserves around 50 thousand letters to and from homes, spanning 400 years from the end of the Ming Dynasty to the 21 century. It is said that the Museum is the first specialized museum featuring letters to and from homes in China.

There are some letters of celebrities, such as Chen Duxiu, Liang Qichao, and Ba Jin. Yet most of the collections are those of ordinary people. Due to their privacy, these letters record many real, specific matters of social life, thus being of high literature research value, which is also the biggest highlight of the Museum.
