Xizhimen Catholic Church, also known as the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and more commonly known by the local as West Church, fares poorly in the ranking of history among Beijing’s four catholic churches. What we see today is a renovated one in 2008. After renovation, the altar is paved with marble floor; it stands just like a three-fold splendid pointed-arch painting of the Coronation of the Virgin; white Chinese sacrificial altar resembles Noah’s Ark. And the Latin altar in the most front is valuable heritage inherited from the early churches.
